I am going to start by saying this: My work is not up to industry standard. It's nowhere near good enough to be used in a movie or game. There is a reason for that though, I completely lack the knowledge to be able to create work to that standard. This is the first time I have ever animated a rigged model, there for its fair to say that its not going to be to industry standards.

3D animation is not a field I have any experience with, and suffice to say, probably never will. 3D animation to me is a chore, It wasn't enjoyable and I think that's one of the main reason my 3D animation isnt very good. When working with a medium you dislike the work will come out worse then when you work with one you love.

There are many improvements that could be made to this piece. To start with, I could remove all the test parts. However I chose to keep them in to show how bad it was when I started the task, compared to the stuff I did later to show a sense of improvement.

Since this was my first attempt at 3D animation I could have created something more interesting if I was more passionate about 3D in general however while I don't think my attempt at it was very good, I did learn some skills to help me in the future should I decide I want to use it again.

IF I was to make it again, I would make the series of movements make more sense and be more coherent. By creating a story or a set of dance moves that look more realistic I could create something better.

I could also improve it by using a model whom's rig is constrained to stop it from getting all twisted up and broken, With a constrained rig the movements wouldn't break as much and would be more fluid. This would help a lot since a lot of the problems I feel like I faced with the animation was the model stretching to far and ending up breaking due to that.

My work for my animal animation was difficult and tedious. I didn't enjoy working on this piece and I believe it shows in the finished animation. There was no way to make the animation perfect with my skill set and I needed a lot of advice with the actual piece itself.

The model I chose to use was very childish and low quality because I wanted fast render times. It wasn't realistic at all, which affected the overall animation in a bad way. When using a cartoon character like the one I have used, realistically animating it will always make it feel off which bugged me the for the whole process after picking the model.

The reason I chose not to change model was because I had already completed my research into giraffe anatomy and other models for a giraffe would have cost a lot of money, which I don't have.

Compared to my test animations, the final animations of the giraffe are a lot closer to to industry standards, however I still don't think they are close to reaching the standards required to make an animated movie or tv show.

If i was to recreate an animal 3D animation in the future I think I would use a better quality model and pick an animal that has more information available on how it moves. While looking into giraffe movement patterns there wasn't overly much information available which made creating the animation harder, The only references I really had was photos and short video clips which were of low quality.
