Human

The first step in prepping for this animation was to find a human model I liked that was pre-rigged and free. I didn't wish to make and rig a whole model from scratch to create this animation nore pay for one that someone else had created. I didn't want one that was too heavy on detail either, otherwise it would take longer to render when the animation was complete. For this animation I plan on creating a variety of movements with the human character of diffrent complexities.

The animation will be made in maya and the animation should be a minimum of 20 seconds with a maximum of 3 minutes depending on how complicated I decide to make the finished project. Rendering time must not take longer than 4 hours at home, but by using a simple model the time should be much lower.

Each frame should be full hd So 1080 by 1900 with at least 72 pixels per inch.

The movements I wish for my human animation to contain are:

  • Walking

  • A jump

  • Standing up

Those would be the bare minimum for the animation as all of those would be required for any kind of game that uses 3D animation.

Using a basic model without hair or eyes means I cant add as many secondary actions to the animation as the hair moving or eyes looking around would normally be something added to the secondary animations, I only have the basic form of the human body to be working with here, so the secondary animations will be hand movements, head movements and the rest of the body following the legs with the jump.

Animal

The first step would be to choose an animal, however since I did my anatomy research on giraffes I have decided to use one of those. Finding a model to use for the animation was the next step, however I wanted a nice and simple one that was free, and finding a realistic one of those was near impossible so I have picked a cartoon like one that was re-rigged and modeled. This will affect the overall animation of the animal, as its harder to animate something cartoon like over things that are realistic.

The animation will be made in maya and because of the research i have done previously I don't believe i will be able to create a good animation for this project as there wasn't overly much information on giraffe anatomy available to me however I should be able to create at least 10 seconds of animation with the idea I have in mind.

For my idea however, I will need to add extra assets to the scene. Adding extra assets will increase the time it takes to render so putting too much work into the giraffe animation would make the render time much longer then I want it to be, as i don't want it to exceed 4 hours. To get around this, I will also be using low poly models for my extra assets too.

Each frame should be rendered in Full HD so 1080 by 1900 with at least 72 pixels per inch.

The movement plans for the giraffe animation are:

  • Walk

  • Run

  • Eat from a tree

The reason I have chosen to create these as the parts to my animation is that they are diverse enough to create interest without being overly complicated to pull off

Due to the limitations of my model, the animation may not look very good doing said movements but I will try my best to create the animation to fulfil these requirements.
