Human Anatomy

A human adult has 206 bones within the body however human babies have 350 this is due to the fact that bones join together and fuse as the human grows. They use this to help tell how old a person was when they died, interesting right? The largest bone in the human body is the femur, it is also the strongest bone in the body making it the hardest to break.

Human bodies are quite diffrent between genders, Females have larger hips and slimmer shoulders then males. They have larger hips to give birth. Males broader shoulders are likely due to evolution as men worked while ladys looked after children so hard working men were more desirable to breed with.

Human bodies are roughly 7 1/2 heads in height if going for an accurate drawing, 8 is ideal for artwork and 8 1/2 for 'god like' humans. The length between the tip of the middle fingers on both hands when straight out at a right angle is the same as the humans hight.

Animal

Giraffe Anatomy

Giraffes are the tallest living animal and one of the largest land animals in the world, They have a total of 307 bones in their bodys, only 7 of which are in the neck, which is the same amount as most mammals including humans.

Compared to other hoofed mammals the giraffe has short body and disproportionately long legs.

A giraffe's front legs are 10% longer then their hind legs, this is due to the large amount of muscles at the base of the neck being too heavy.

Their legs are so strong they can kill a lion by kicking it.

Due to their size, Giraffes don't have much agility, their weight doesn't help them out much either, however due to the large amount of mussels they have they can run fast.

Giraffe's are heavy set animals, meaning they move with a lot of weight which is important when animating them. Due to this fact you have to make sure you take into account the weight of them when moving them as weight changes the way things move.

Animals anatomy compared to humans can be very similar yet very diffrent depending on how you look at it, If we take a closer look at some of our most closely related creatures on the evolutionary path, The monkey. Chimpanzees are one of the closest type of monkey to humans and it is theorised we are descended from a type of monkey that no longer exists, this means our genetic makeup is similar, however it's more similar than most people may think, We have the same amount of bones, muscles and their nervous system is the same too!

However when making an animation of a monkey, you need to know the differences too, Chimps don't walk the same way humans do and they can weigh more or less then we do, which also changes the way they move. Their brains are smaller than ours but they are still intelligent creatures to the point that the do a lot of the same things we do.

Chimpanzees walk using their legs as well as using the knuckles on their hands, this is likely because of the fact their arms are longer then their legs however they can walk just on their legs, which is something you should take into account if you plan to animate one.
