Evaluation and reflection

My characters designs work well and seem interesting enough to differentiate between the diffrent characters and races of said characters.  I chose to create the characters based on the descriptions given by my friends, to create charecters to their indivigual liking. 

​

For the cat butler, I think it came out well. While in the final piece the tail is hidden, when I used it for the animation it's clearly visible, it shows off all the qualities my friend asked for. The specification for the cat was, "make it like Schrödinger from hellsing, but as a butler. Make the neon colour represent the yellow of his uniform" So that's what I did, I think I did a pretty good job of it as while it isnt a copy of the character from hellsing it shares the main traits of the character (spiky hair, cat ears and tail) without being overly obvious of where the character came from to begin with.

The second character, The shadow, while i'm not too happy with the way I created this character, It did fulfill the requirements for the character, I could have gone more advanced on the character and probably should have but the basic features requested were included, This friend asked for something that would include the basic premise of his logo, the smile and the creepiness, which is why his neon version is a skull, I however would like to redraw this one at a later date as it isnt up to my standards.

The next character, the dragonkin I tried to draw with my ideas of what an elder dragon would look like if it was more humanoid. This is why the dragon had long hair as long hair is sometime seen as a sign of age since it takes a long time to grow. I included the dragon's tail and wings as it just felt more dragon like with them, The lack of clothing also felt more proper as a dragon wouldn't need clothing if they were in a dragon form most of time. I quite like the look of this character and would be interested in drawing it again in more detail in the future.

The fourth character was the harpy, this character was meant to be based off of a parrot, however I wanted to make it super vibrant. That is why it is prominently green rather than the normal colours of a parrot, I did however want to link it back to the parrot that was asked for as part of the piece, which is why some of the hair is diffrent colours. Green was the colour I was given as the neon colour for the character when I asked "the client" what colour they wanted.

The final character was my demon, This one was actually the hardest out of all of them to draw. I originally was going to kinda cheat it by drawing the character I draw time and time again, however I decided I would design a completely diffrent one using a similar colour pallet so I could re-use the character design elements I liked the most next time I draw my normal demon character. I really liked my idea with the horns to have a rainbow of colour underneath them and it's probably my favorite part of all the characters i have created this time around.

Overall I like the designs I have come up with for most of the characters however I think in the future I could create more interesting artwork, however with the idea of animating them I didn't want to do complicated shading on them as then it would look out of place in some places if it was animated, For example the shading around the mouth would be wrong. For this reason I didn't decide to shade the artwork and to leave it plain, however it has diminished the overall look of the piece. As such, in the future I will have to find a way around it by using diffrent shading techniques to allow me to shade it without affecting anything if it is animated. 

​

Because I had enough time I decided to do the simple animation I was planning and ended up lip syncing the whole song however the animation looks strange as they dont breath at at all or even blink, This means the animation is unrealistic and does not flow very well, since there is no secondary animation or flow, this however was not the point of the animation, It was more to show I am still capable of animating even though it's not the main point of the project.
